Celebrity Diet: Blue diet glasses

Hollywood celebrities are usually the ones to start a fad diet. When it comes to fad diets, there are a lot of pills, diet programs and even diet glasses. Yes, you heard me right… diet glasses.

Blue diet glasses are made famous by Johnny Depp, the hero of the movie called Pirates of the Caribbean, who donned it wherever he went and was believed to have caused him to lose extra pounds.  Just what are these blue diet glasses?

Traditionally, eyeglasses and sunglasses are designed to filter out blue light since the short wavelengths of the blue light makes the eyes hard to focus on a certain object. Moreover, blue light also emphasizes dust and moisture in the air thereby creating a hazy look on your glasses. So what is the hype about these blue diet glasses?

Some people would think that wearing blue diet glasses would make the fool less appetizing to eat. However, there is science to using blue diet glasses. In fact, this wavelength is often related to blue-green algae that contain anthocyanins which is a cancer-fighting antioxidant that protects cells. However, this is not a convincing argument that makes blue diet glasses an effective means of loosing weight.

In recent studies, the blue light often increases the serotonin in the wearer’s brain. Serotonin affects the mood, sleep and appetite of a person. Basically, the increase in serotonin also suppresses the appetite of a person.

Although this might be good news for some people who want to lose weight effortlessly, the increased production of serotonin can also enhance the likelihood of cardiac diseases and other dangerous conditions.

Although the blue diet glasses did work for Johnny Depp, it is still subject for the scrutiny of the experts in the medical and scientific field.
